Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies that have a contract with Medicare. These plans incorporate your Medicare Part A, Part B and often Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug coverage) – into one plan. Medicare Advantage plan availability varies by county. A Medicare beneficiary’s county of residence will determine which Medicare Advantage plans are available.
Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) Contracted Medicare Advantage Plans for 2017
NGHS, which includes Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC), Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) and The Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, will be contracted with the following Medicare Advantage plans for 2017:
- Coventry Healthcare
- Cigna HealthSpring
Non-contracted Medicare Advantage Plans*
If you have a Medicare Advantage PPO that is not listed under our NGHS contracted plans, as a courtesy NGHS will bill the plan as a non-participating provider. This includes retirees with State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP), insured by United HealthCare for the 2017 plan benefit year. SHBP retirees can still access NGHS facilities and providers without penalty. For benefit information, please call SHBP (contact numbers found here) or call UnitedHealthcare.

NGHS accepts all forms of Medicare Supplement insurance.
Sometimes referred to as Medigap insurance, a Medicare Supplement works in conjunction with Original Medicare. Medicare Supplements provide coverage that is secondary to Medicare, helping to insure the approximate 20% of healthcare expenses not covered by Original Medicare. Medicare Supplements generally do not include a prescription drug plan, so beneficiaries wanting coverage for medications will need to purchase a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug plan.
